Di Chai’s work Lovers explores the relationship between humans and technology, using balloons and AI to express the pain and suspension within our inner selves. This immersive piece, through its AI-generated characters and their cold conversations, encourages audience reflection, challenging our understanding of connection and self-identification. The artwork aims to foster a dialogue on self-discovery and the complex relationship between humans, technology, and identity in today’s contemporary art landscape. In Lovers, two floating balloons project AI-generated figures engaged in a dialogue on human emotions, self-objectification, and the blurred line between humans and AI. As viewers approach, the balloons sway, heightening a sense of isolation. The floating AI figures symbolize the uncertainty of self-awareness and freedom in both human and AI.
It is an interactive new media installation. It leverages machine learning to understand the moment a viewer blinks, manipulating the media on the monitor during this brief moment of unconsciousness.“Trial 1.4” navigates the delicate balance between agency and absence, as even in moments of unconscious inaction, our essence is woven into unfolding realms. "Emotion Tentacle" serves as a vessel for my current emotions, much like a diary. It showcases not only my present emotions but also the small details I discover in life, such as natural shapes or my thoughts and perspectives on certain things. These details are transformed into artificial shapes that, for me, represent a way of communicating my inner world to the outside. Each piece of artwork is a reflection of a part of my deep inner self, and together, they create a collective whole that is a part of me. My aim is not to create individual sculptures but to construct a unified whole that evokes resonance and a shared emotional experience. For me, art is a way to present my internal self to the world, to express my thoughts and feelings in a way that resonates with others.
Seraph, a six winged angel in the Old Testament, is said to symbolize a fiery red flame. The master of the angel is a role of direct and deep communication, representing purity and love, inspired by song:the “Palm City ”lyrics of "As a Tyrant or as a Savior": to become a tyrant or savior, In life echoes in eternity. Personify faith as a virtual human image, with the white angel guardian representing the meaning of angels in the modern world. Through virtual fashion, interpret the power of opposing war and reflect on the meaning of personal existence and the world.
This work explores the intersection of bodies and personal experiences, unraveling the complex relationship between the external world and internal identity. Through her lens, Zhu captures the tension between presence and absence, vulnerability and strength, highlighting the fluid nature of identity in a constantly shifting world. Her photography reflects how individuals navigate external forces like culture and environment while grappling with their inner landscapes of memory and emotion. By portraying this ongoing process of self-reconstruction, Zhu invites viewers to reflect on the complexity and continual evolution of human existence.
Society imposes labels and standards on women, such as being a good wife, mother, thin, and "pretty." Women are expected to be gentle, independent, and autonomous, leading to harmful judgments and pressures. These societal gazes cause many women to experience self-doubt, anxiety, and even harm as they try to conform. In this painting, button eyes symbolize the rigid, inhuman gaze women face, while the circles represent the cycle of self-denial and anxiety. The scars on the girl's body reflect the damage caused by societal expectations, and the joker's makeup in the background highlights the irony of women constantly changing themselves to satisfy others.
